Roland Mann Reveals Secrets of Making Comics

Always thought the comic fairies created the cool comics you read and enjoy? Not so! They’re created by living, breathing, human beings! Come find out how!

Roland Mann,  be in Nashville, Tennessee at the Madison branch library on March 23rd talking about how to have a Career in Comics.  Roland is a writer, editor, and professor. As writer, he is best known for his work on Cat & Mouse, a comic which ran for nearly two years, garnered critical acclaim and led Roland to other work. Other titles Roland wrote include Rocket Ranger, Miss Fury, Planet of the Apes: Blood of the Apes, Krey and Demon’s Tails. For more information on Roland and his work, visit his website.

J. Moffett Walker, author of Blueprints of Sir Michael, the definitive biography of Michael Jackson, The Mississippi I Love, and many other works spotlighting the deep south, will be the keynote speaker at the Afro-American City-Wide Banquet on February 26, 2011. The theme of the black-tie affair is “A Proud Past and a Promising Future”.

After the banquet, she will be signing copies of all six of her books.

February Fright Fest

Horror fans! Come out to the Eudora Welty Commons in Jackson, MS, for the February Fright Fest, sponsored by Java Ink Cafe, to indulge in the frightening festivities that will begin at 9PM February 11th with the Black Hearts Ball, starring MississJava Ink in Jackson MSippi belly dancing legends, MissiHIPPY.

February 12th, from noon untill 8PM, come indulge in tons of terrifying excitement with horror authors, artist, independent movies, graphic novels and more. Featuring the works of non-fiction paranormal author, Dr. Alan Brown; horror authors Alexander S. Brown and Ellen C. Maze; and writer/illustrators Andy Childress, Chuck Jett, and Shane Sullivan. Special appearances by The Mississippi Society of Paranormal Investigation and The Natchez Paranormal Society, featuring a skilled speaker on the subject of demonology. Also, this will be the first venue where Alexander S. Brown will display and sell his photography.
